Course Description
This course introduces the basic concepts and skills of mathematics for grade 2 students.
The course covers topics such as mental math, multiplication and division, money, fractions, time, capacity, picture graphs, geometry, and area. The course also provides opportunities for students to practice and apply their mathematical thinking through word problems and review activities.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Use mental math strategies to add and subtract numbers up to 100
- Estimate sums and differences using rounding and compatible numbers
- Recall and apply the multiplication and division facts of 4, 5, and 10
- Solve multiplication and division word problems using various strategies
- Solve money word problems using addition and subtraction
- Identify and name halves and quarters of shapes and objects
- Write fractions using numerators and denominators
- Calculate time intervals using a number line or a clock
- Measure and compare the capacity of containers using cups, pints, quarts, and gallons
- Interpret and create picture graphs using data
- Identify and describe flat and curved faces of 3D shapes
- Measure and compare the area of shapes using square units
