Course Description

This course introduces the basic concepts and skills of mathematics for grade 1 students.

The course covers topics such as counting, comparing, number bonds, addition, subtraction, ordinal numbers, shapes, and measurement. The course also provides opportunities for students to practice and apply their mathematical thinking through stories, and challenge problems.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Count and write numbers from 1 to 20
  • Compare numbers and use the symbols <, >, and =
  • Identify and create number bonds for numbers up to 10
  • Add and subtract numbers up to 10 using various strategies
  • Solve addition and subtraction word problems up to 10
  • Use ordinal numbers to describe the order of objects
  • Recognize and name common shapes
  • Measure and compare the length and weight of objects using non−standard units
