Course Description

This course introduces the basic concepts and skills of mathematics for grade 4 students.

The course covers topics such as numbers up to 100,000, rounding, factors, multiples, multiplication, division, fractions, data, angles, lines, area, perimeter, and symmetry. The course also provides opportunities for students to practice and apply their mathematical thinking through word problems and review activities.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Read, write, and compare numbers up to 100,000
  • Round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, or 1000
  • Identify and find factors and multiples of numbers up to 100
  • Multiply and divide numbers up to 4 digits by 1 digit using various strategies
  • Solve multiplication and division word problems involving up to 4 digits by 1 digit
  • Add and subtract fractions with the same or related denominators
  • Convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions
  • Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers
  • Interpret and create bar charts using data
  • Identify, measure, draw and classify angles as acute, right, obtuse, or straight
  • Identify and draw parallel and perpendicular lines
  • Measure and calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles and squares
  • Identify and draw lines of symmetry and symmetrical figures

Course Assessment

The course assessment will consist of:
