How do you know if your tutor is a good fit?

When you are looking for a tutor, you want to get the best tutor for your student. You want to find a tutor who is knowledgeable, trustworthy, and can really connect with your student.

Here is a list of things to look for when you are checking out a tutor.

  1. Your tutor has expertise. He or she can develop a strategy or plan that best fits your student’s needs. They have established expertise with the subject through personal achievements or they have been teaching the subject for quite some time.
  2. Your tutor offers an initial consultation and asks questions to find out more about your student. They should be informed about about the student’s grade, and student’s personality and affinity toward the subject matter. Check that they ask for sample work or give a pre-assessment to learn more about your student’s current ability.
  3. Your tutor is responsive to your questions or comments. When you reach out to your tutor, you should typically hear back from your tutor within 24 hours or less.
  4. Your tutor has a background check, or as a credentialed teacher they have a background check. While your student can meet with the tutor online, it can give peace of mind that tutor’s personal history has been checked out.
  5. Your first lesson is guaranteed. Finally, after checking out all your potential tutor’s qualifications, find out if your tutor is the best fit by having a first lesson and seeing if it works out.
