Toys for 6 and up

  1. Educational Insights Math Slam  – Kids will have a blast with this game! Each game is timed and there are 10 questions. The questions will repeat until your child answers correctly. The music is fun and there are lots of flashing lights to make this game fun and exciting while learning. Kids will learn addition, subtraction and algebraic addition.  Ages 6 to 9.

  1. Thinkfun-math-dice-junior – A teacher’s favourite toy of the year nominee. Kids will have hours and hours of fun. The goal is to use addition and subtraction to sum up the numbers on 5 colored dice to get to a target number. Kids will learn to do addition and subtraction quickly in their heads and have fun doing it. Multiple players can play the game at once and the dice can be used in different ways to create different games. Instructions are easy to use and the game is small enough to travel with.  Ages 6 and up.
  1. Learning Resources Math Link Cubes – Great stocking stuffer and price point. These cubes promote addition skills, subtraction skills, counting to 100, skip counting, as well as, fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. Ages 6 to 10.

  1. Be Amazing! Toys Extreme Physics Kit – In this kit, your kid will explore physics skills. Using simple equipment, they will learn about gravity, inertia, potential and kinetic energy and acceleration. Ages 6 and up.

  1. Learning Resources Money Bags Coin Value Game -This game will teach your kids about the value of money including counting and exchanging money. It comes with over 100 pieces of realistic-looking coins and paper money, dice and a game board. 2 to 4 people can play. Ages 6 and up.

  1. Learning Resources Math Marks The Spot Floor Game – This game is fun for the whole family. It teaches numbers, addition and subtraction. You roll the large foam dice and compete with each other racing to mark the correct answer. Ages 6 and up.

  1. Osmo – Genius Starter Kit – Osmo uses objects in the real world to interact with the digital world. An Ipad or Iphone is needed. There is also a version that works with the Amazon Kindle Fire. Five games in the kit help kids with numeracy, problem-solving skills and there is also a drawing game. Three of the games are Numbers, Words and Tangram which come with a set of physical pieces. The other two games Newton and Masterpiece can be played without any additional pieces. Ages 6 to 10.

  1. Kano Harry Potter Coding Kit – Build a Wand – Build a Wand – This toy is for the Harry Potter fan.
    Through coding your child will build a magic wand where they can perform their own magic by making feathers float, making pumpkins grow and more. There are over 70+ step-by-step challenges. Ages 6 and up.

  1. Pressman SMATH – With this game, kids will take turns using tiles to make crossword style equations. Beginners can do addition and subtraction and more advanced players can move up to multiplication and division. You collect points and the most points wins the game. Ages 6 and up.

Toys for Ages 8 and up

  1. LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox – What kid wouldn’t want to build a robot? Your kid can build 5 different robots while learning coding skills. Instructions are included for all 5 robots along with the Lego Boost app. A tablet or mobile phone is required. Ages 8 to 12.

  1. National Geographic Science Magic Kit – This kit comes with 20 fun and exciting science experiments. Everything is included. It also comes with an additional booklet which has more science experiment ideas that can be done with household items. Fun for the whole family! Ages 8 and up.

  1. Colorku Mad Cave Bird Games – This is a sudoku type game that uses color balls instead of numbers. There are 5 different levels of difficulty. The puzzles start with a grid  that is partially filled and the players must fill in the rest. Play individually or as a multiplayer game. Ages 8 and up.

  1. ThinkFun Gravity Maze Game – Lay out the blocks the way the card tells you and then drop the marble in. There are three different levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. It is more than a game. It requires logical and computational thinking. You will be fighting with the kids to play this game! Ages 8 and up.

Subscription Boxes and Kits

  1. Mel Science – For the kid that loves science and performing hands-on experiments, you’ll want to check out this subscription box. Each box will come with fun building projects that can be used with MEL’s app. There are a variety of chemistry and physics activities. Even though there is an app, the boxes still provide hands-on activities. Ages 10 and up.

  1. X Workbox STEM Subscription Box -You can choose the subscription box for appropriate age groups, either ages 5-8 or ages 9-14.  Each month you will receive 2-3 projects related to a STEM theme. Examples of some past month activities include experiments with electric motors, sensors, fluid power, gears, and pulley systems.  Ages 5 to 8 and ages 9 to 14.

  1. Amazon’s Stem Club – Amazon has its own STEM monthly subscription box. You will receive a STEM toy every month. You can choose from three different age groups. There are a variety of toys each month. In the past, kids have received snap circuits and the Gravity Maze. Ages 8 to 13.

  1.  Bitsbox – This subscription box uses hands-on activities and the computer to teach kids how to code. Your kid will learn how a programmer works and builds code. Each month, the box comes with over a dozen coding projects. Ages 6 to 12.

  1. Sumboxes – This is a math subscription box. You can choose which math game to receive based on your child’s age. Some of the themes include dinosaurs, basketball and Mt. Everest which is linked to math exploration. The math box will include all you need to make math fun for your kid. Ages 6 to 10.
